In The Spring and Fall

Antiquing, Hunting, Fall Foliage

The area is home to an abundance of antiques, many from the 19th century as the town and its surroundings experienced an economic boom as a result of the railroad expansion that occured in this area during the mid to late 1800's. In 1853, the tracks connected Montreal, Canada to Portland, ME, in Island Pond, VT creating the first international railway, allowing winter transport of goods to and from ports landlocked by the winter's cold.

The foliage in Northern Vermont is especially brilliant due to the Fall Foliage in Island Pond, VT October 2010number and variety of disiduous trees, most
especially, white , yellow and grey birch, sugar and rock maple and beach. The mountains are illuminated in a kailidascope of color that begins with red, then shifts to yellow and then orange. Foliage peaks about the first of October, though begins about the third week of September and lasts till mid October.

Hunting is a native pastime, being native the region. Though the area is called "Moose Country" deer are prevalent, as well. Hunters also hunt partridge and black bear.
